Education and Training

I began my medical journey at M P Shah Medical College, Jamnagar, India, where I completed my MBBS from July 2008 to March 2013. Pursuing further specialization, I earned an MD in General Medicine from Grant Government Medical College, Mumbai, India, between July 2014 and July 2017. My passion for advanced medical studies led me to Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, India, where I achieved a DM in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Endoscopy from September 2017 to September 2020. Continuing at the same institute, I have been serving as a Senior Resident in the Department of Gastroenterology since September 2020.

In addition to my academic and clinical training in India, I have achieved significant international qualifications. I earned the post-nominal MRCP (UK) in Gastroenterology through the European Specialty Examination in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ESEGH) in May 2021. I have also completed the MRCP (UK) Part 2 exam and am currently preparing for the PACES exam as of August 2021.

Professional Experience

I am currently a Senior Resident in the Gastroenterology Department at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow, India, a role I have held since September 2017. SGPGI is one of the most prestigious research institutes for Gastroenterology in India, with a 66-bed Gastroenterology department and a fully equipped Endoscopy suite. As part of my training and practice, I have managed a wide range of patients with gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreatobiliary conditions. I have performed 1,400 Upper GI endoscopies and 600 colonoscopies, encompassing both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as Endoscopic Variceal Band Ligation, endotherapy for GI bleeds, and polypectomy. Additionally, I have assisted in 300 ERCP procedures (performing 30–40 independently, including CBD stenting) and participated in 150 EUS procedures.

From June 2014 to July 2017, I served as a Resident Doctor at Grant Government Medical College and JJ Hospitals, Mumbai, one of the largest hospitals in India, with a total capacity of 2,000 beds. This included 300 beds in the Medicine Department, 40 of which were dedicated ICU beds. Known for its high patient volume, the hospital provided extensive clinical exposure across a wide range of medical cases, particularly in the outpatient department.

Earlier in my career, I completed a compulsory one-year internship from March 2013 to March 2014 at Shree M P Shah Medical College and GG Hospital, Jamnagar, India. As one of the largest government hospitals in Gujarat, the institution provided invaluable hands-on experience in managing diverse clinical cases as part of my medical education.

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation

I conducted a comprehensive study titled “A Study of Incidence, Prevalence, Clinical Features, Diagnosis, and Management of MDR Tuberculosis in a Tertiary Care Hospital from India”, which was submitted to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences as part of the requirements for the degree of MD in General Medicine in 2017. This research provided valuable insights into the epidemiology and clinical management of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis in a high-burden setting, contributing to improved understanding and strategies for tackling this critical public health issue.

Publications / Presentations

I have contributed to several publications and presentations in the field of gastroenterology. My original article, “Patients with specific gastrointestinal (GI) motility disorders are not uncommonly diagnosed as functional GI disorders in the early stage by the community physicians due to lack of awareness,” was published in the Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology. Additionally, I co-authored a paper titled “A rare case of disseminated histoplasmosis in a patient with Crohn’s disease on immunosuppressive treatment,” which was published in the Indian Journal of Gastroenterology in 2018. Another notable work, “Gastric tuberculosis mimicking liver abscess – A case report,” was featured in the Indian Journal of Tuberculosis in February 2020. Most recently, I published “A rare case of silent celiac disease presented as enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma” in the Journal of Digestive Endoscopy. These publications highlight my commitment to advancing knowledge and awareness in the field of gastroenterology.

CME And Conferences

I have actively participated in various Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs and conferences throughout my career. During my second year of MBBS, I secured 4th place in the UG Psychiatry Quiz Competition organized by the IPS Gujarat State Branch in 2010. I attended a CME on Clinical Chronic Disease Management – Diabetes in June 2015 and participated in the 2nd International HOLD Conference by the Hypertension Society of India in Mumbai in 2016. Additionally, I attended the Obesity Update 2016 on December 17th and 18th in Mumbai and the 72nd Annual Conference of The Association of Physicians of India in Mumbai from January 26th to 29th, 2017.

In 2018, I presented a case of Ulcerative Colitis with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis during a session at ISGCON, held in Kochi, Kerala. I also presented three posters at the same conference. In 2019, I showcased my research through three E-posters at the Asian Pacific Digestive Week (APDW) in Kolkata, further demonstrating my commitment to academic excellence and knowledge dissemination.

Educational And Cocurricular Achievements

I have achieved significant milestones in my educational and competitive examinations. In 2014, I secured an impressive 513th rank in the All India PG Entrance Examination, scoring 1218 out of 1500 marks. Later, in 2017, I demonstrated academic excellence by achieving a 99.43 percentile in the NEET SS (Super-Specialty) exam, showcasing my dedication and aptitude for advanced medical studies.

Medical Registration And Memberships

I hold medical registration with the Gujarat Medical Council (G-51319) and am an active member of several esteemed medical organizations. I have lifetime memberships in the Indian Society of Gastroenterology (ISG), the Association of Physicians of India (API), and the Indian Medical Association (IMA). Internationally, I am a member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA), and the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), reflecting my commitment to staying connected with global advancements in gastroenterology and medicine.
